Learn how AM enabled soft tooling for injection molding can be used for rapid prototyping.

KEA invites you to a digital learning session in collaboration with MADE. The session allows you – from your workplace and at your own pace – to learn about rapid prototyping using 3D printed plastic components.
The method gives you the ability to make quick trial-and-errors and thereby produce multiple design iterations quickly and change a product design overnight to meet deadlines.
Focused and based on best practice
Instead of a broad introduction to additive manufacturing technologies, this learning session presents a basic process chain based on the best practice of AM enabled soft tooling used in the industry.
The current polymer resin printing technology (Vat based photopolymerization) allows printed mold inserts strong and precise enough for producing plastic parts for prototyping and low-volume production. Compared to the conventional CNC-produced mold inserts, the cost and lead time are significantly reduced.
Digital learning based on interactive videos
The digital learning sessions consists of a range of interactive short learning videos organized in 3 chapters:
- Polymer Processing and Design Rules
- CAD Modelling of Plastic Part and Mold
- Practice of 3D Printing, Post Processing, and Injection Molding
Depending on your interest or expertise, you can cherry pick the videos you prefer.
Duration
Depending on your experiences with CAD design, the duration of the full digital learning program will be 5-10 hours.
Prior to and after the end of the course all participants are asked to answer a pre- and off-boarding survey and a number of participants will also be asked to participate in a follow-up interview.

Background information on MADE Learning Factory - KEA
Learning factories represent a realistic manufacturing environment for education, training, and research. KEA Learning Factory – a collaboration between KEA, DTU Construct and MADE – aims to provide an on-demand online video library for users to learn Additive Manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing. AM is the construction of a three-dimensional object from a CAD model or a digital 3D model. The term "3D printing" can refer to a variety of processes in which a material is deposited, joined or solidified under computer control to create a three-dimensional object, with material being added together (such as plastics, liquids or powder grains being fused together), typically layer by layer.
KEA learning factory is one of three learning factories in the initiative MADE Learning Factory, which focusses on accelerating the adoption of digital tools and maximise their potential for upskilling employees of Danish production companies.

Practical information
Target group: Employees with limited or no experience with 3D printing & CAD Design.
Required hardware and software: You can access a digital library of learning videos for the course from your own computer. To complete the assignments in the course, you will need to install a free software for CAD design. The CAD instruction is done in Autodesk Fusion 360, however other similar CAD software, such as Solidworks and inventor, are also applicable.
