Gain inspiration from the way the LEGO group and DTU experiment with new digital technologies at MADE and explore our novel AM laboratories for digital production.
- 11 aug2022
How can we use 3D printing and AM to make the route from concept to mass production as fast as possible? This question is central to the close, long-term, interdisciplinary collaboration between the LEGO Group and DTU at MADE. Be inspired by the valuable results they have achieved.
From months to a matter of hours
Working together in small-scale laboratories, the LEGO Group and DTU explored and tested new digital technologies. At the innovation conference, the two companies will explain how they collaborated to print a plastic insert for injection moulding to replace standard milling or polishing, enabling them to proceed from design to production in a few hours rather than several weeks or even months, as used to be the case. You will hear how AM technologies allow the world’s largest toy manufacturer to make tools much faster and more flexibly using 3D printing technology.
New technologies require new skills
To achieve the best results when 3D printing in plastic, modelling and simulation must be incorporated into the design process, and temperature and thermal shock need to be taken into consideration. This requires new skills. Come and learn how companies improve their skills at MADE Learning Factory to scale up their production to a critical mass.
