Robots and improved flows have brought down delivery time at VOLA

In 2000, VOLA moved to new facilities in Horsens, Denmark, with a vision of building the perfect factory from scratch.

However, the Danish manufacturer of high quality taps was experiencing increasing delivery times and stock holdings.

“It was as if the more we had in stock of a certain product, the less in demand it was”, Thomas Winter Jørgensen, supply chain coordinator at VOLA, told the participants at MADE Industrial visit to VOLA in April 2018.

Following a strategic focus, the delivery time has now decreased substantially, the stock is much smaller than earlier, and the revenue has increased with 50 percent over the last four years.

The key to this breakthrough was to rethink the production flow, focusing on high adaptability to specific customer needs. The new production flows were supported using a combination of flexible automation and talented operators.

This recipe is now being applied to further develop VOLA’s production, where they are now building a new factory of over 5000 square meters.
