MADE Digital – Apply for a Ph.D. position within Smart Industrial Products

Applications are invited for a PhD fellowship/scholarship at Graduate School of Science and Technology, Aarhus University, Denmark, within the Engineering programme. The position is available from 1 May 2017 or later.

Research area and project description

As a part of the newly approved research project MADE Digital funded by the Innovation Fund Denmark, Aarhus University is leading a Work Package entitled “Smart Industrial Products” and the focus of that can be explained as:

“Industry needs to connect products to the Internet of Things (IoT) and develop value adding services for customers. This requires the innovation of industrial products into hybrid products with software ecosystems. Service software “production” will become as important as the physical production. This requires R&D in product cloud architectures and software ecosystems for industrial products. This research will enable radical industrial growth in development and after-sales services for industrial products.”

The PhD students working on this will be in close collaboration with a number of Danish companies wishing to extend their existing products with intelligence. There are a number of different enabling technologies that will be researched. This includes technologies such as IoT, Cyber-Physical-Systems, big data, machine learning, product eco-systems, safety and security engineering.
